How Bitcoin works — at a glance

A very small, interactive explanation of the core ideas: transactions, blocks, hashing, proof‑of‑work, mining rewards (coinbase) and how copies of the ledger are compared between peers.

  1. 1 — Transaction
A signed transfer of value from A to B.
  2. 2 — Block
Many transactions bundled together with a nonce and a hash.
  3. 3 — Hash
Deterministic fingerprint — changing a block changes its hash.
  4. 4 — Proof‑of‑Work
Miners search for a nonce so the block hash meets a difficulty target.
  5. 5 — Coinbase
Special transaction that creates the miner reward included in a block.
  6. 6 — Consensus
Nodes compare chains and accept the longest valid chain.
